Amanjiwo

The Client:
Amanresorts, owned by the legendary Adrian Zecha, built this hotel very near the 8th century Borobudur Temple in Central Java. The architecture reflects this ancient Buddhist site, all stone, steps and curves. Voted by Conde Nast the most exotic hotel in the world.

The Brief:
The entrance and reception hall's benches and desks are all in stone. Quite complicated as the stone imitated the stupas of Borobudor. We used a sandstone which, years later, still looks beautiful.

Chinawhite

The Client:
Rory Keegan & John Stevens are the owners of Chinawhite. Previously John worked for the legendary Mortons in London and this was their first attempt at a nightclub/restaurant in London. It was a huge success from day one.

The Brief:
We were asked to create several areas in stone and wood. We created massive Chinese two sided dragons, hallways in carved stone, furniture, doors, wood flooring - the whole works. Please look at the photographs.

Four Seasons

The Client:
Christos Mouskis (the owner) & Matt White for Hirsch Bedner in London. Wonderful project as it bought me back to Cyprus. I used to live there as a child before it was a divided island.

The Brief:
Two complete restaurants including several stone panels, massive elephant tusk bar, terracotta columns, all the lighting, bronze statues, teak doors and carvings, various asian art pieces for their oriental bar.

The Beji

The Client:
Two English investment bankers who bought a lovely piece of land on a river in Canggu, Bali. This was a first for me as I was given the whole design package; architecture, interiors, the lot - including a generous budget.

The Brief:
The concept was to raise the bar on normal dull tropical architecture. My inspiration was a Japanese village in Kyoto circa: 1860 and give it a modern twist with a great deal of decadence and luxury. The result is a spacious, clean lined home complete with private cinema, tennis courts, teak floors, Japanese Koi ponds.

KuDeTa

The Client:
Australian owned restaurant, bar and hang out that has become world famous. Was asked before the opening to create the entrance feature walls and more inside. This became one of the pieces that I am most proud of and led to acquiring the project for Changi Airport - Terminal 3.

The Brief:
Carte Blanche to create a 25 meter bas relief stone wall. We used different sizes and thicknesses of stone to achieve an almost 3D effect. Wonderful abstract and global imagery, using alphabets, mythology, symbolism - over 1000 different images. Inside stands an enormous stone mirror in the middle of the main floor.

Mandarin Hotel

The Client:
The Mandarin Hotel Group and Hirsch Bedner Design from Singapore. This hotel is located in the busiest district in Jakarta. A very high profile building which needed quite a lot of work when we were hauled in. Indeed our team ended up in residence there for over six months!

The Brief:
The Main Porte Cochere. The entire swimming pool and terrace area in stone weaved lattice walls. Various custom made sculptures with the Mandarin Logo. All the outside furniture for the bars and pool terraces, wooden pavilions and more.

Saipan

The Client:
Flown over to the deepest ocean trench in the world to build all the stoneworks for a private house owned by a doctor living in Saipan. The work we did was beautiful. Took our whole team from Bali to install the works.

The Brief:
We designed an enormous swimming pool, for which we provided all the interior and exterior natural stone, Jacuzzi area, bar, dining room, stone flooring inside and out, limestone terraces, wall carvings and gorgeous stone lattice walls. The job looked great.
